Second Nature and GreenerU Partner to Offer Free Building Decarbonization Assessments to New England Campuses
Cambridge, Massachusetts (December 10, 2025) – Second Nature, a national nonprofit committed to accelerating climate action in and through higher education, is excited to announce the recipients of its first Zero-Cost Building Decarbonization Assessment in partnership with GreenerU. This initiative offers selected New England campuses a zero-cost, building-level decarbonization assessment valued at $10,000.
The program is designed to help colleges and universities advance campus decarbonization efforts by providing a comprehensive evaluation of energy use and infrastructure. Five campuses were selected to receive a customized “zero-over-time” plan for one building. A zero-over-time plan is a strategic roadmap for gradually achieving net-zero carbon emissions over a period of time. Each plan evaluates the building’s current energy use and systems, identifies energy conservation and electrification measures, and provides a roadmap to achieve building-level decarbonization goals.
Each selected campus receives a detailed report that is theirs to keep, including estimated costs, available incentives, projected cost savings, and total cost of ownership to guide future investments.
